William Henry Brodrick died 8th July 1913 aged 54

This lovely headstone enjoying the sunshine and Ian Galloway cricketing, belongs to Joseph John Kitching and William Henry Brodrick. The two men were both born in Australia a year or two apart but their paths did not cross until united in business as painters in Wellington in the 1890s.

Brodrick was married to Jemima Rendall. She died aged 23 in 1886 and is buried in Dunedin. They had one daughter. He came on to Wellington and in 1891 was present at the inquest of his half brother, over which Sir Robert Stout (Stout Street) took an interest.

Kitching was married to Amy Dora Hills and they had four daughters. He was a representative footballer, was one of the best rifle shots in the Taranaki District and a Lodge member.

By 1911, Brodrick was living with the Kitching family at 51 Aro Street. Both men died a year apart at a relatively young age and are buried together. Amy died in 1934 and was buried in the same plot although she is not named on the headstone
