The Friends is a wholly volunteer-based organisation.  Without the assistance of volunteers the Friends cannot achieve our goals.  As a consequence the whole organisation works to involve and recognise volunteers.

The Friend’s Volunteer Policy is the framework for making sure volunteering with the Friends is a rewarding experience.  The policy seeks to ensure volunteers are clear about what they are being asked to do, the obligations on the Friends to look after Volunteers, and the obligations on volunteers to the Friends.

Volunteering with the Friends is organised around six activities.  Each is led by a member of the Friend’s Committee.  If you are interested volunteering with us please do not hesitate to contact the activity leader.   We do not require volunteers to be members of the Friends, but we do require their adherence to the Volunteer Policy.

Tours & Research

Responsible for genealogy and associated research, tour design, guide selection and training, guided tours.

Grave Finding

We plan to offer sophisticated plot search and location systems, but for the present finding your relative’s grave can be a bit challenging.

Heritage Buildings

The initial focus is on the Chapel and the Shelter – their history and heritage aspects.

Flora and Fauna

The initial focus is to collaborate with the Cemetery and to start developing programmes and actions to develop the flora and fauna across the Cemetery, and especially to attract and sustain more native bird life.

Gardening

This activity will involve gardening and plot maintenance working closely with Cemetery management and plot owners.
