Our schedule of upcoming tours and family history days hosted at The Shelter.
Movers & Shakers (Public & Jewish areas)
– January 24, 2022
From 1840 to 1900 Wellington went through an extraordinary period of development and change. A small rugged beach under cliffs was transformed into NZ’s major port, NZ’s largest commercial centre and the seat of government. The Early Wellington tours visit the graves of the industrialists, merchants, artists, doctors, lawyers, teachers, politicians, engineers, architects and scientists who made all this happen. We bring to life the history of Wellington by telling the story of their experiences and exploits. These are compact areas so the tours though taking an hour and a half and do not involve a significant amount of walking.
Tours, Working Bees and Events Under the Covid-19 Protection Framework (The Traffic Lights)
As a community-based charity, we want to ensure that our community is safe.
Under 'Orange' we can only safely welcome fully vaccinated people on our Tours, Working Bees or any other Events we run, due to it being impractical for us to maintain social distancing for everyone.
We assure you that all of our Committee or any other volunteers that assist us are fully vaccinated.
If you're coming to one of our Tours or Bees, please be prepared to show your Vaccine Pass on arrival and also to scan in using the QR code. We will also ask for and record contact details for each party attending our Events. Children are welcome. Those children over 12 years and 3 months will need to have their Vaccine Pass verified too.
Mask wearing is required inside all Karori Cemetery buildings including The Shelter.
We encourage the wearing of masks outside where practical.
We will continue to assess these requirements and adjust as the Framework changes.
We look forward to welcoming you to Karori Cemetery.
